PE
"Physical Education is learning about exercise and how to take part in games and sports."
Southtown Primary pupils.
Intent
Our intention is that all of our children take part in and experience a wide range of physical activities which challenge them, build character, and which embed values such as joining in and working together. Our aim is that all children develop a wide range of skills and that they feel proud and successful of their achievements in PE. It is essential that our children are physically active and healthy, experience competition, and understand mental health and the impact that physical activity can have.
Implementation
At Southtown Primary every child is given the opportunity to experience Physical Education through a practical, progressive and engaging curriculum. PE lessons are planned and delivered by Professional Premier Sports coaches and completely supported by Class Teachers, who, together, ensure that children engage and excel in physical skills and become confident in their abilities, progress and achievements they make.
PE learning journeys are in place for each year group. These are based on strands which include Knowledge, Skills, Understanding and Key Vocabulary, Cross-curricular links, Experiences, Opportunities and Life Skills.
PE is delivered from YR up to Y6 over two hours across the week.
Wellbeing is reinforced through a complementary curriculum both in and out of the classroom alongside PE, which also explores; emotional health, mental health, dietary health and social well-being.
Impact
Children will develop the knowledge and understanding, skills and attributes necessary for a physically and mentally healthy lifestyle. Children will have experience in taking part in a wide variety of physical activities. Children will have a passion to learn about and take part in further physical activity.
