Primary Languages
"Modern foreign languages are languages other than English that are in common use around the world."
Southtown Primary pupils.
Intent
We believe that the learning of a language provides an important educational and cultural experience for all children. We want to instil a love of language learning and enable our children to become confident in the speaking and listening of, and reading and writing of, a foreign language. We also aim to teach children about the culture of the language.
Implementation
Children are taught a Modern Foreign Language curriculum using Rigolo. The curriculum has been planned and developed so skills and knowledge are taught and built on across the primary age range to enable children to extend and deepen their understanding as they move through the school.
Impact
Children develop their knowledge regarding being able to speak, listen to, read and write a foreign language. Children have an understanding of a different culture.
