Welcome

Headteacher's Welcome

We cultivate and nurture attitudes of support, respect and care in all of our activities and relationships and for all of our children. Equally important is learning. We have set high standards for everything we do and strongly believe in the importance of the core skills of communication, reading, writing and mathematics.

The staff share in my belief that all children can achieve success with the right teaching, guidance and nurturing environment that we promote here. We encourage our pupils to develop  self-belief and we set high expectations for them because we know that they achieve their best when they are challenged, engaged and motivated. Our excellent pastoral support system provides access for all children to staff who are here to listen, challenge and engage them in their school day. Each child is also part of our house system where they can feel part of a team. This instills a strong sense of belonging and community. We are proud of our school and being part of the Southtown community.

Our last visit from Ofsted (November 2019) found that:

  • 'Pupils enjoy coming to school.'
  • 'Pupils like the adults who work with them and they enjoy learning. Pupils are very positive about the school and are proud of their achievements.'
  • 'Reading is a real strength in the school’s curriculum. Most children in the early years learn to read by the end of their year in Reception. Pupils use phonics well to read new words. Pupils enjoy reading and most are good readers by the end of Year 2. Teachers encourage pupils to read books by a wide range of authors and they share their love of books with pupils.'
  • 'Pupils talk about their learning needs and how the school has given them confidence to do work and make good friends'.

We are a busy but friendly school with lots going on. This website aims to give you a taster of the school, as well as providing up to date information for parents, pupils and the wider community.  Copies of information or policies on this website are available from the school office free of charge.

Please feel free to contact the school direct with any queries you may have.
